The
Great Smoky Mountains National Park : There are a
multitude of reasons why the Smoky Mountains region of Tennessee
has emerged as one of the top 10 vacation destinations in
the nation. The outdoor attraction of the Great Smoky Mountains
National Park explains part of the appeal of the area. The
park is a national treasure that was the first "star
of the show" in this part of the world. The Great Smoky
Mountains National Park not only offers stunning vistas to
Tennessee visitors, but it also plays host to an incredibly
and almost unprecedented number of animal species. The black
bears of the Smokies might be the most famous of the creatures
that make their home here. But the park is teaming with life
from literally thousands of species. This is true for the
famous Smoky Mountain foliage as well. There are more species
of trees found here than in any other ecosystem in the world!
It is partly this diversity that explains the spectacular
fall colors that light up the Tennessee hillside with autumnal
flare every year. Hiking is popular in the Great Smoky Mountains
National Park; as is the scenic drives available along the
Newfound Gap Road. (Click

Pigeon
Forge, Tennessee: The fame of the Smoky Mountains
began with the designation of the Great Smoky Mountains National
Park. But since then the neighboring towns of the region have
grown to become major resort centers. Pigeon Forge is a full-fledged

each and every year. Pigeon Forge plays host to a wide variety

Hoedown, the Smoky Mountain Jubilee, the Fiddler's Feast Supper
Show and the Triumphant Quartet Show. Pigeon Forge offers
exciting theme park entertainment at Dollywood- named of course,
after Pigeon Forge's own Dolly Parton. Dollywood is the only
beginning when it comes to theme parks in and around Pigeon
Forge. Some of the other most popular attractions include:
the Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, the Smoky Mountain Car

Gatlinburg,
Tennessee: The Smoky Mountain city of Gatlinburg,
Tennessee is not only exciting and entertaining but it is
also unique- a true one-of-a-kind in the league of American
resort cities. Throughout downtown Gatlinburg the architecture
is reminiscent of a European alpine village. This provides
a quaint setting that blends in seamlessly with the backdrop
of the surrounding Smoky Mountains. Gatlinburg is home to
a wide variety of world renowned Tennessee artists' galleries
as well as gift shops and antique stores. Some of the more
upbeat attractions available in Gatlinburg include: the World
of Illusions, the Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum, and the
Guinness World of Records. Another popular Gatlinburg attraction
is the Gatlinburg Skylift that offers Smoky Mountain vacationers
an unparalleled, panoramic view of the area as it climbs up
the side of the vibrant Tennessee hillside. Like Pigeon Forge,
Gatlinburg hosts several theatre shows such as the Patty Waszak
Theatre and the Sweet Fanny Adams Theatre & Music Hall.
The historic Gatlinburg Trolley Ride is a popular way to get
around the downtown area. (Click

Sevierville,
Tennessee: Of the three Smoky Mountain sister cities,
Sevierville is probably the least well known. However, this
northernmost point on the north-south route that runs through
the Smoky Mountains region has plenty of recreational flare
of its own to offer Tennessee tourists. The Governor's Palace
is a world-class theatre that plays host to an impressive
line-up of live talent. The Great China Acrobats offer thrilling
and death-defying stunts in downtown Sevierville. Other popular
Sevierville attractions include: the NASCAR Speed Park, the
Rainforest Adventures Discovery Zoo, and the Ripley's Old
McDonald Mini-Golf. Sevierville also offers a wide variety
of walking and hiking trails for outdoors enthusiasts to enjoy.
The historic Sevierville Trail is the most famous of the local
hiking paths. History buffs will definitely want to check
out the Tennessee Museum of Aviation and the Sevier County
Heritage Museum. History of a different sort altogether is
on display throughout the year at the Floyd Garrett's Muscle
Car Museum. (Click
